LECTURES Entering Your Quilts in Shows: What a Judge Sees Ever wonder how quilts are judged in competitions? Want to know what takes a quilt out of ribbon contention? Learn about quilt judging standards and processes. Hear about the common mistakes quilters make and how to avoid them. Become a savvy exhibitor and increase your chances of success at any show! (1-1 ¼ hours)
Masterpiece Quilts from the DAR Museum Collection, Washington, DC Through the DAR Correspondent Docent Program, I am able to offer this Power Point presentation featuring nearly 60 18th and 19th century quilts held in the DAR Museum's collection. There’s exciting eye-candy and women's history to be had here. Features include medallion, appliqué and pieced quilts as well as the prized “Album Quilts” in the collection. (1 hour)
Apron Strings: Our Ties to the Past Featuring over 75 vintage and contemporary aprons, we will cover the history of the apron from a utilitarian necessity to a fashion accessory. We’ll talk about who wore aprons (you'd be surprised), what they were made from and how they were embellished. Bring your favorite apron and “apron stories” as we find our ties to the past. (1-1 ¼ hours)
Signature and Album Quilts from the 1800s-Present There's captivating history behind Signature and Album quilts. Learn about the early practice of initialing household linens, Civil War era fundraising quilts and 19th century inking on signature and album quilts. We’ll wrap up discussing materials and techniques for leaving our mark on today’s quilts. Several vintage and contemporary show-and-tell Signature and Album quilts are featured. You are encouraged to bring your own treasures to share. (1-1 ¼ hours)
A Quarter Century of Quilts This Trunk Show features nearly 40 quilts and quilt tops made over the years. They exhibit a wide variety of techniques ranging from traditional, hand and/or machine appliqué to pieced and more contemporary art themes. Here's your opportunity to view many blue ribbon and Best of Show quilts at your convenient location. (1hour)

This is my most requested workshop.
Dimensional Appliqué Add dimension, texture and realism to any quilting project. Learn how to create delicate ruched flowers, folded flowers and buds, fancy leaves, fine stems and more. See Maribeth's album quilt in the gallery for examples. Full day, familiarity with hand appliqué helpful.
Fabric Origami Bag Create this fabulously cute origami tote bag in one of two sizes. The piecing is straightforward and the results are stunning. There are lots of opportunities for embellishments, if desired. Bet you can’t make just one! Half day, all skill levels.
Fantastic Finishes Learn to finish the edges of your quilt and achieve a professional look. We'll make practice samples of various bindings, mitered corners, binding joins, prairie points and more. Hear what quilt judges look for in evaluating edge finishes. Full day.
Holiday (Or Not) Table Runner With just 4 fat quarters and an additional yard of fabric, you'll have a runner in no time! Choose holiday, floral or other focus fabrics for this project. You'll learns some slick piecing and cutting tricks. In addition binding tips and quilting ideas will be shared. Half day, all skill levels.
Pinwheels and Posies Create this original design lap quilt featuring 4 patches, pinwheels and folky flowers. You’ll learn a number of techniques to make half square triangles and smooth appliqué pieces with speed. It’s scrappy. It’s fun. The simple appliqué flowers add a fun edge finish. Pattern fee required. High beginners and up. |
